Is Healthcare Implementation Project Management Only For Healthcare People?

ACC Continuing Education’s HITT 2026 Healthcare Implementation Project Management intermediate foundations course is taught from the perspective of a healthcare organization’s point of view (hospital, provider, insurance, research, etc.) using the full spectrum of generic principles from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) from PMI® (Project Management Institute).  To explore the concepts more fully than an introductory course, we use a textbook with examples, cases, and explanations from the healthcare domain in this course.

Healthcare projects are usually a mix of both intellectual activities (inventing or designing a process or product) and physical activities (equipment or procedure deployments, logistics, etc.), much like any other domain (IT, finance, construction, etc.).  Healthcare domain projects typically involve activities in: project, program, and portfolio management, clinical workflows, HIPPA, new business venture, research, procurement, finance, construction, biotechnology, etc.  Most people have little trouble understanding the examples and stories in our textbooks in our increasingly tech savvy society, and modern office environments.

An alternate intermediate course taught from multiple industry perspectives is BMGT 1009 Applied Project Management. It also uses the full spectrum of generic principles from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) from PMI® (Project Management Institute). And, the textbook used comes from the same textbook author as for the HITT 2026 Healthcare Implementation Project Management intermediate foundations course, so the contents are quite similar.

You can use Amazon’s LOOK Insidefeature and read a few pages to see what the HITT 2026 Healthcare Implementation PM intermediate course textbook is like.  We’ve had many students from diverse backgrounds perform well in our intermediate full-spectrum courses, regardless of domain background, since the fundamental framework is the same for all of them – examples and cases differ for pedagogical reasons.  The follow-on advanced BMGT1040 PMP/CAPM Exam Prep course is non-industry specific as it is focused only on polishing for the CAPM® & PMP® Exams from PMI® – there is a focus on exam tips and tricks and practice tests in that one. More detail for the BMGT1040 PMP/CAPM Exam Prep course can be viewed on its course description web page.

Remember that all PM courses anywhere will have to use examples and stories from some kind of domain to illustrate the principles.

Having educated 1,000+ students from several domains in our flagship course since 2003, we've found that either of our intermediate courses are a good, broad foundation for managing projects most anywhere.
